CASE STUDY

I am very grateful to have been part of the team on this powerful documentary about the importance of fathers and truths about our Heavenly Father! The documentary consisted of interview footage, archive news clips, vhs video, stock footage, b-roll, and lots of photos.

A key focus was to match the interviews together as well as working on individual touch-ups and polish for each interview.

For this interview with Dr. Tony Evans, we wanted the white of his shirt to be a clean white, and also toned down the yellow stripe.

A key focus for this interview with Jim Daly was to isolate and desaturate the wall color so it wouldn’t distract from his face.

A lot of the work for the b-roll footage was to balance it and “make it look normal.” However, one unique set of football b-roll needed to be graded to represent the 60’s-70’s. I took inspiration from the movie Woodlawn, but adjusted to fit the tone of this film. Initially I degraded the footage quite a bit to feel like it was “filmed” in the 70’s but the notes came back that it was too much.

Woodlawn

Even though it’s a documentary it has some really neat stories that are hard to believe. I enjoyed being able to attend a special screening of the film at NRB and see the audience’s reaction.

It’s been encouraging to hear how God is using the film across in prisons, churches, families, and around the world!
